It is not possible to talk about wines produced in the Vinho Verde region without mentioning the excellent contribution of Anselmo Mendes, as oenologist and wine producer.
But Anselmo Mendes produces and is responsible for the oenology of several wines in the different wine regions of Portugal.
In his vast portfolio we find, for example, Anselmo Mendes Private Alvarinho, Loureiro, Pardusco and Touriga Nacional wines.
The first three are Green wines produced from the most appreciated grape varieties in the Vinhos Verdes region (Alvarinho, Loureiro and Alvarelhão).
Private Alvarinho ages in used barrels and has an appealing aroma with notes of ripe fruit. In the mouth it is voluminous and unctuous with controlled acidity but very balanced and harmonious.
Private Loureiro is a wine that reveals the full potential of its grape variety and therefore is Loureiro in its purest state. It shows itself elegant and sublime, guessing longevity in bottle, enormous freshness in mouth and expressiveness, but all this with an exquisite lightness.
Private Pardusco is a red wine produced from the Alvarelhão variety, also known as Brancelho. It fermented in vats and aged for two years in used barrels. In taste this wine is smooth, polished and deliciously fresh. A spicy red wine, immensely vibrant, that leaves in the mouth a long and refreshing taste of red fruit and wood.
Private Touriga Nacional is produced in the Dão region. It is a red wine made exclusively from the Touriga Nacional grape variety produced at Quinta de Silvares. It appears to be an uncomplicated and easy to drink wine, however its good structure, texture and acidity give it a prominent place at the table.
Quinta de Silvares also produces Anselmo Mendes Dão, a red wine made from the most prestigious grape varieties in the Dão region - Touriga-Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Tinta Roriz and Jaen. It shows a young wine with aromas of ripe berries and nuances of cherry and black pepper. Fine velvety tannins that contrast harmoniously with a well defined and fresh acidity. Long, soft and full of black fruit.
Going through a little more Portuguese territory we find in the region of Beiras another excellent wine from this winemaker. Anselmo Mendes Beira Interior produced from old vineyards, where the Siria variety predominates, ferments in used barrels. It is a surprising wine, with beautiful floral notes in a fine and refined aroma. Great freshness in the mouth, with much minerality, elegant citrine notes, a wine full of definition and breadth.
